about

This West Virginian tune has a special place in my heart as being the first hoedown I learned on the pipes, and also the first tune I played in an old-time session. Chris Layer and Pete recorded a version of this on Chris's Return of the Rivers album (1997), with Chris playing Scottish smallpipes. It seems to me the tune also suits the Border pipes in a quasi-bluegrass setting. The pipe solo here borrows heavily from an alternate version of the tune, learned from the playing of Alan Jabbour.
